Final Call for PapersThe Twelfth EARNet Symposium

Thessaloniki (Greece)
September 22nd & 23rd, 2023
Preceding Ph.D. Workshop September 21st, 2023

We are happy to announce that the twelfth European Auditing Research Network (EARNet) Symposium will be held on September 22nd and 23rd, 2023, in Thessaloniki, Greece. Thessaloniki is Greece’s second largest city with a population over 1 million. It is a big port city and resides on the coast. It is both a sprawling urban center and a cultural melting pot, where dreams, ideas, visions and trends percolate in an alternative, avant-garde scene. Its rich history is written upon everything that surrounds you in the city. Just as you will enjoy the atmosphere in the numerous open-air cafes and bars, you will adore the choice of traditional tavernas and gourmet restaurants: Thessaloniki is designated as a City of Gastronomy by UNESCO. Nearby Thessaloniki lies the scenic Chalkidiki peninsula, a very popular holiday destination for both locals and international tourists. The weather in Thessaloniki is pleasantly warm in September.

The EARNet Symposium is a major event in Europe for the presentation and discussion of auditing research. It also provides a forum for academics, practitioners, policy-makers and standard-setters to discuss auditing research and current issues in the auditing environment. The Symposium includes parallel sessions of presentation and discussion of research papers, a plenary panel session, and a keynote speech. There is a best paper award.

Papers should be submitted as a PDF. Please include in two separate files a version with author information and a version without author information. In addition to papers reporting completed studies, we also welcome submissions of preregistered study proposals.

Authors who submit a paper can opt to submit the paper for consideration of publication in a special section of the International Journal of Auditing (IJA) dedicated to the EARNet Symposium.  It is possible to submit a paper solely to the Symposium and not for consideration of publication in IJA. Acceptance of a paper for the conference does not automatically imply acceptance for IJA. However, when accepted for consideration in IJA, there will be a fast-track review process. Papers submitted for consideration for publication in IJA should not have been previously published or be currently under consideration for publication elsewhere. If authors wish their paper to be considered for publication in the International Journal of Auditing, this should clearly be indicated upon submission.

A Ph.D. Workshop will precede the symposium on Thursday, September 21st, 2023. The Ph.D. Workshop aims to promote high quality auditing research among young European researchers. Feedback on accepted Ph.D. proposals or Ph.D. related papers is provided by experienced international scholars in auditing research. Papers can only be submitted either to the Symposium or to the Ph.D. Workshop!

Deadline for submission of papers to the Symposium and papers/proposals to the Ph.D. Workshop is March 31st, 2023. In addition to your paper/proposal, please also submit the following information: Name of your supervisor, overall PhD topic, and in what year of your PhD you are. All authors will be notified by June 1st, 2023.

The conference fee of € 350 (Early bird registration until July 15th, 2023) or € 400 (Registration after July 15th, 2023), includes access to the program, papers, and conference, including coffee breaks, lunches, the opening reception, and the conference dinner. Students whose paper is accepted for plenary presentation in the Ph.D. workshop get a conference fee waiver. The Ph.D. workshop itself is free of cost.
